Los de este linaje son antiguos hijos de las montañas de Burgos, con casa solariega en el lugar de Santa María de Miera, en la merindad de Trasmiera. Procede, en opinión de algunos autores,del solar primitivo del linaje Acevedo, y así parece indicarlo la estructura de ambos apellidos y la gran semejanza de algunas de sus armas. Otros dicen que los A. tomaron el apellido del árbol llamado acebo, que abundaba en aquellas montañas, y lo pusieron también por armas. Se extendieron por diversas regiones de la Península, entre ellas Navarra, Aragón, Cataluña, Valencia y Asturias. Uno de los primeros varones de este linaje fue privado del rey García Jiménez, de Navarra, al que prestó señalados servicios, luchando contra los moros. Armas: Los de Asturias, Aragón, Cataluña y Valencia ponen: en campo de plata, dos lebreles blancos atados a un acebo de sinople. Don Juan Baños de Velasco señala para otra rama este mismo escudo, pero añadiéndole una bordura de gules con nueve emes griegas, de plata, con coronas de oro. ...
