Nobility crown AlbaniVery ancient and noble family from Albano, a village near Bergamo, known since the sec. XI. In 1549 with diploma of 10 April, marked in Vienna by the emperor Frederick III, he obtained the comital title. Francesco, mayor of Zogno, was the father of Francesco, called pater patriae because in 1516 he managed to dissuade the Bergamo citizens from fleeing as the imperial ranks approached. His son Giangirolamo (1509-1591), with the general side of the Venetian Republic, mayor of Bergamo, hosted his father Michele Ghislieri in his fortress of Urgnano when he was threatened with death for his work intended to purge Bergamo from heresy. Having become the pope Ghislieri with the name of Pius V, in 1770 he conferred the cardinal purple on Albani, who remained widowed.
