Noble linaje de Galicia, con casa solar en la villa de Ribadavia, de la provincia de Orense. Es considerado como uno de los más antiguos de dicha región, y dió ilustres y grandes caballeros que se distinguieron mucho en los comienzos de la reconquista de España, como lo afirma el Obispo de Oviedo D. Servando, Confesor del último Rey godo, y D. Pedro Sequino en su "Tratado de los Solares de Galicia". Esta casa entroncó con la de Sotomayor y López de Sobrado, que eran también de las más principales en aquella región. Juan López Sobrado y A. fué nombrado en el año de 1606 Alcalde ordinario de Ribadavia por el estado de hijosdago. En el de 1607 se le nombró Corregidor de la mencionada villa, también por el estado de hijosdalgo. Casó este caballero con una señora muy principal llamada doña Catalina Fernández de Somoza, de la casa de este último apellido. Así lo describe en su "Lucero de la nobleza" D. Alfonso Castilla, Rey de armas de los Monarcas Católicos. Dichos Juan López Sobrado y A. y su mujer doña Catalina Fernández de Somoza, fueron padres de Miguel López Sobrado y A., que contrajo matrimonio con doña Juana Álvarez de Novoa y Araujo (hija de Juan Álvarez de Novoa y Araujo, familiar del Santo Oficio en la ciudad de Santiago de Compostela, y de su mujer doña María López de Senante), naciendo de esta unión Miguel López Sobrado y A., segundo del nombre, que hizo información de nobleza en Madrid, obteniendo sentencia confirmatoria. ...
