Giovani Ritonio, nella sua "Tessera omnium familiarum nobilium Italiae", stampata a Valenza nel 1484, riferisce proprio di questa famiglia "c'hebbe origine da un Cavaliero Normando, chiamato Anfuso, Signor del Contado d'Altomari nella Normandia, figlio del Conte Ruberto, e di Brisilla figlia di Tancredo Normando Conte d'Altavilla. Interzato incappato abbassato; di rosso, al al vascello a vele spiegate d'argento, nel 1° d'argento, al leone coronato d'oro; nel 2° d'azzurro alla fascia d'argento caricata di un'aquila coronata.
Fa per armi un leone coronato ch'esce dell'onde marine. Fece anche una banda d'argento co tre mezze bande di sotto d'argento in campo rosso, e pure un vascello in alto mare come di sopra si vede.
Altomare o Altomari di Napoli citati in "Teatro della nobiltà del mondo" del Sig. Dottore Don Filadelfo Mugnos, stampato in Napoli 1680, p.416.
Il blasone appare incompleto tuttavia il Mugnos pubblica anche uno schizzo dello stemma da cui abbiamo ricostruito le mancanze.
