Very ancient and illustrious family, known as Amato or d'Amato, of Spanish origin and arrived in Sicily in the 13th century, with a certain Pagano who, from King Louis, obtained, with privilege August 11, 1296, the fiefdom of Callisi, consisting of three land holdings named Villanova, Cullasi and Xilinda, in the territory of Caltabellotta, which remained in the family for many generations. An Orlando was also the owner of the gabelle of Pelo and Merca of Palermo, from the investiture of February 15, 1458; while a Giovanni was the first possessor of the fief of Galati, confirmed on July 3, 1453, and that, with privilege given on June 9 and executed on September 27, 1644, in favour of Filippo Amato, was raised to a princedom.
