Los autores que hemos consultado dicen que este linaje tiene también denominaciones de A., Amelli, Amejir, Ameler, etc., pero que todos los que se apellidan de una u otra manera proceden de un mismo primitivo solar y tronco, que tuvo su asiento en Cataluña, dando motivo a ramas que se extendieron por Aragón y Valencia. A esta última región pasaron los Ameller, sirviendo el rey don Jaime I "el Conquistador", quien en premio de la ayuda que le prestaron los heredó en Valencia, Alcira, Carcagente y otros puntos. De los que se apellidaron Amelli en Cataluña, fue fray Pedro Amelli, uno de los primeros religiosos de la Orden de la Merced, que en el año de 1317 murió en el convento de Narbona. Muchos años antes, en 1128, fray Guillén Amelli fue religioso templario. Bernardo Amelli se halló inscrito entre la mayor nobleza de Cataluña, en la donación que hizo el rey don Pedro I de Aragón del castillo de Vechona, y sus términos a Rodrigo Pedro. De los que se apellidaron A., fue Matías A. canónigo y vicario general del obispado de Barcelona en 1609. Los Ameller florecieron mucho en la provincia de Barcelona. De una línea con casa y asiento en la villa de Granollers procedía Miguel Ameller, natural de Granollers, que casó con doña Ignacia Vilansona, natural de Cardona, de la que tuvo a José Ameller y Vilansosa, natural de Granollers. ...
