Origin of last name Andrin, country of origin: France

Nobility: Nobles
Heraldic trace of family: Andrin
Nobility crown Andrin
Ancient and noble French family, of clear and ancestral virtue, with main residence in Gévaudan, a historical area of France in Lozère département, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. The origin of this surname shoul be sought in a variation of the German name "Andric", composed of "And" (= sword point) plus "ric" (= powerful). Anyway, the first traces left by this family date back to the fifteenth century, when its members were part of the local nobility of Gévaudan. In fact, the family, in all ages, always stands out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Jean-Pierre, landowner in Gévaudan, flourishing in 1489; Robert, knight, flourishing in 1510; Françoise, doctor in both laws, flourishing in Chirac, in 1533; Jean-Claude, landowner in Périgueux, flourishing in... To be continued

1546; Leon, distinguished doctor of law, flourishing in Ispagnac, in 1603; Pierre, jurist, flourishing in Chirac, in 1540; Thomas Antoine, landowner in Perignaux, flourishing in 1669; Anton, militiaman, flourishing in 1683; François, doctor in "utroque jure", flourishing in Florac, in 1697; Louis, "mestre de camp", flourishing in 1707; François, notary and counsellor in Chirac, flourishing in 1718; Jean-Pierre, landowner, flourishing in Perignaux, in 1731; Nicolas, "mestre de camp", flourishing in 1747; Louis Anton, landowner, flourishing in Florac, in 1752; Nicolas, distinguished doctor of law, flourishing in Paris, in 1769. Family names so old, without any doubt, honour not only families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy the living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious members.
