Antica ed illustre famiglia, detta Arangio o Arangi, i cui membri ebbero in feudo l'isola di Nicaria fino al 1481 e godettero del titolo di Conti. Sin dal 1890, appartiene al casato la c.d. tenuta Arangio, situata ai piedi dei monti Iblei, nella verde campagna, e nella estrema propaggine sud orientale della Sicilia, vicino a Capo Passero ed all'Isola delle Correnti. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel nome medioevale "Narangio", ossia la forma italianizzata dall'arabo "naranj", a sua volta, derivato dal sanscrito "nagaranga", appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. Tal casato, inoltre, come rilevasi da documenti ed atti notarili, in ogni epoca, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali.
