Linaje de antiguos hijosdalgo, con solar conocido en el lugar de A. (cuyo nombre tomó), del Ayuntamiento de Foronda y partido judicial de Vitoria, en Álava. Una línea se avecinó en la villa de Subijana, del mismo partido judicial de Vitoria, y de ella fué Juan de A., vecino de esa villa, que ganó Real provisión de hidalguía en la Chancillería de Valladolid, en 1538. Otra rama se estableció en la ciudad de Vitoria, con líneas en América. Otros pasaron a Vizcaya y fundaron nuevas casas en la anteiglesia de Jemein, en la de Guizaburuaga y en la de Murélaga, todas del partido judicial de Marquina. En la villa de Martín Muñoz de las Posadas, del partido judicial de Santa María de Nieva, provincia de Segovia, tuvo otra líneas casa muy principal, de la que fué Diego de A., natural de Martín Muñoz de las Posadas, marido de doña Antonia de Arce, de igual naturaleza, y ambos padres de Diego de A. y Arce, natural de Martín Muñoz de las Posadas, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Francisca de Cotes, de la misma naturaleza, naciendo de esta unión Alonso de A. y Cotes, natural de Martín Muñoz de las Posadas y caballero de la Orden de Santiago, en la que ingresó el 13 de Diciembre de 1653.
