Noble linaje navarro. Tuvo casa palacio en la villa de Arbizu (cuyo nombre tomó) del partido judicial de Pamplona, y en la villa de Obanos, del mismo partido judicial. Pasó a Guipúzcoa y a Aragón. En los archivos de la antigua Cámara de Comptos se encuentran abundantes referencias de los primeros Señores de A., pero no son suficientes para formar una genealogía que arranque del origen y fundación del linaje. Sábese que entre sus más antiguos varones figuraron Miguel Ibáñez de A., que era Alcalde de la villa de Echarri, Aranaz, también del partido judicial de Pamplona, en 1370, y García López de A., Alcaide de la Torre de la misma villa en 1371. Mosén Jaime Febrer cita a Pedro de A., que pasó de Guipúzcoa voluntario al servicio del Rey aragonés Don Jaime I y le ayudó en la conquista de Valencia. Fué Secretario de dicho Monarca, y éste le tuvo en gran estimación por el acierto con que discurría en todos los más graves asuntos. Murió en Burriana, dejando un solo hijo que mostró el valor heredado del padre, pues en el sitio de Murcia sacó del foso a muchos que ya perecían. Los datos más concretos para la genealogía de los A. de Navarra comienzan en García Martínez de A., Alcaide del Concejo de Bernedo (Álava), en 1389. Fué primer Señor de Muez, lugar del partido judicial de Estella (Navarra), y prestó homenaje en 1395 al Rey de Castilla para hacer guardar al de Navarra los Tratados de paz y alianza.
