Muy antiguo y calificado linaje de Álava, con solar primitivo en el lugar de Arcaya (cuyo nombre tomó), del partido de Vitoria. Se lee que Diego de A., hijo del mencionado solar, pasó a Aragón a servir al Rey don Jaime I el Conquistador, y regresó a Vizacaya, estableciéndose en la villa de Lequeitio, del partido judicial de Marquina. Creó en dicha villa casa y rama, y ésta emparentó con la casa vizcaína de Aguirre, fundada por un hijo del solar de Arandia. Otra noble rama del solar primitivo, de Álava, se apellido Díaz de A., y sus líneas se establecieron en los lugares de Betoño, Matauco, Otazu y Zurbano, todos del partido de Vitoria. A la rama troncal perteneció Juan Díaz de A., que ganó provisión de nobleza en la Chancillería de Valladolid en 1553. Otra ilustre rama pasó a la República de Venezuela, dejando el patronímico Díaz para apellidarse solamente A., a imitación de los más antiguos varones del linaje. Tuvo por progenitor a Ignacio Luis Díaz de A., nacido en Matauco (Álava). Este caballero obtuvo ejecutoria de nobleza e hidalguía en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid, el 15 de Enero de 1766, refrendada por Real cédula fechada en Aranjuez, el 5 de Julio del mismo año. Pasó a Indias y casó en la ciudad de Coro, Gobernación de Venezuela, en 1752, con doña María Josefa Pérez de Medina y Oyarvide, de la que tuvo, entre otros hijos, a José de A. y Pérez de Medina, natural de Coro, que contrajo matrimonio en la misma ciudad, con doña Mariana Chirino. ...
