Su origen es catalán. Los hubo en Tarragona y en Vic. Luego pasaron a Aragón. No tiene nada que ver este apellido con el de "Artajona", aun cuando algunos autores los confuenden. En Aragón dio nombre al lugar de A., del partido judicial de Barbastro (Huesca). Entre otros caballeros aragoneses de este linaje florecieron los siguientes: Martín Pérez de A., que sirvió a Jaime I en Valencia en 1237, y salvó al rey de ser prisionero de los moros. En 1253 fue justicia de Aragón, y se halló en la concordia que se hizo con el rey de Navarra. En 1260 estaba en Barbastro por capitán de gente de guerra. Fue su hijo Pedro Martínez de A., que también fue justicia de Aragón. Otro caballero, llamado igualmente Pedro Martínez de A., sirvió al rey don Pedro III, se le nombró para entrar en el desafío de Burdeos y después siguió la unión a Aragón y Valencia. Fue enviado por Alonso III al rey de Inglaterra, y asistió a la concordia, en 1289, entre Alonso III de Aragón y el infante don Alonso de la Cerda de Castilla. Luego fue justicia de Aragón. ...
