Antiguo linaje vasco, radicado en vizcaya desde el siglo X, en la anteiglesia de Gautéguiz de A., hoy perteneciente al Ayuntamiento de A., partido judicial de Marquina. Pedro Ortiz de Avendaño, de la casa alavesa de su apellido, fue padre de Furtado García de Avendaño, que heredó el Señorío de Aramayona y los lugares de Mújica y A., con la casa fuerte de Gautéguiz de A. Tuvo entre otros hijos, a Furtado García de A., que fue el primero que usó este apellido, por haber heredado de su padre el lugar y casa de A. Fue muerto en Villarreal por orden del Rey de Castilla don Pedro I "el Cruel", quien también le destruyó, en 1358, el solar de Guatéguiz de A., que reedificó más tarde su nieto Furtado García de A., tercero del nombre. En 1468, los Mújicas y Avendaño volvieron a demoler la casa solar de Gautéguiz de A., pero nuevamente la reedificaron sus dueños, cercándola de murallas de piedra, cubos y baluartes y, andando el tiempo, perteneció al Conde de Montijo. Del mencionado solar de Gautéguiz dimanaron varias ramas que crearon nuevas casas en diversas villas de Vizcaya, pasando a otras regiones de España y América. ...
