Ancient and noble Spanish family, originally from the town of Azkoitia, the judicial district of Azpeitia, Guipuzcoa, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. The first references to the family already appear on the end of the twelfth century, about the re-population of Alava, being one of the families that founded Vitoria. Some members of the family were also among the knights of the expedition of D. Pedro de Ursua in search of El Dorado in the XVI century. According to some heraldic reconstructions, the Arzaga family of Spain would be of the same line as the Arzaga or Arzago of Italy and, more precisely, of Lombardy.
