Nobility crown AvilaEl linaje de este noble y antiguo apellido castellano, procede de la ciudad de Avila, cuyo nombre tomó y desciende de Balsco Gimeno, gobernador de Ávila, a fines del siglo XII. Se extendió por la Península y varias ramas pasaron a América. Probó numerosas veces su nobleza en las Ordenes Militares, y entre los privilegios de hidalguía alcanzados por esta familia se cuenta el concedido el 22 de abril de 1528 a Don Diego de Ávila, por haber hecho prisionero al Rey de Francia en la batalla de Pavía. Don Felipe II concedió, el 30 de octubre de 1557, el título de Marqués de Velada a Don Góme Dávilla, VIII Señor de San Román, Velada y Guadamora.
