Da nobre a antiga família dos Araújos proveio a dos Azeredos, pois Vasco Rodrigues de Araújo, filho de Rodrigo Anes de Araújo, casado com D. Leonor Pires Velho, filha de Pedro Anes Velho, foi senhor da Torre de A., na Galiza, dos quais nasceu Rodrigo Vasques de A., chefe dos Azeredos, que viveu em Entre Douro e Minho. Seu filho João Rodrigues de A. viveu no tempo dos Reis D. Afonso V e D. João em Guimaráes, e serviu nas guerras da época com o posto de capitão. Casou com Inês Gonçalves de Araújo, filha de Gonçalo Roderigues de Araújo, e deste matrimónio descnderam os Azeredos de Portugal. Da casa de Penalva, em Baião: família descendente de João Roiz Moniz de A. cidadão do Porto, que militou, com gente sua, nas guerras contra Castela (casado com D. Inès de Sousa, Dama da Rainha D. Leonor) terceiro avô, por legítima varonia, de Jerónimo Monteiro de A. e de António de A. Pinto. Jerónimo Monteiro de A., o primogénito, foi o tronco dos A. da Casa de Picota, cuja descendência, por varonia, terminou em João de A. Lobo de Almeida Leme (irmão de D. Maria-da-Conceição), casada com seu parente Francisco-Carlos de A. Pinto e Melo). António de A. Pinto, o segundo, já em 1597 estava casado com Maria de Gouveia, e a 8.5.1608 foi nomeado Tabelião Judicial e Notas do concelho de Baião, onde comprou a Casa de Penalva, que ainda hoje se conseva na posse de sues descendentes.
