Of remote Hungarian origins, in ancient times it bore the surname Particiacchi or Partecipazi. Between the 9th and 10th centuries it gave the Republic numerous doges: Agnello, from 810 to 827, father of Giustiniano, Giovanni, Ioannaceno and of a Giusto, later bishop of Torcello; Giustiniano, son of the previous, from 827 to 829, under whose staved was brought to Venice from Alexandria the body of San Marco; Giovanni I, brother of Giustiniano, from 829 to 832; Orso I, probably son of Ioannaceno, from 864 to 881, and whose brother, Vitale, was Patriarch of Grado; Giovanni II, son of Orso I, from 881 to 887; Orso II, probably son of Baduario, from which the surname "Badoer" derives, Doge ...
