Origin of last name Balko, country of origin: Germany - Hungary

Nobility: Nobles
Heraldic trace of family: Balko
Nobility crown Balko Ancient and noble German family, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. According to some heraldic reconstruction, it would descend from the noble family Balk or Balke from Silesia, with which it shares the blazon. According to other conjectures, however, this family, as a reward for valuable services rendered to Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor, was admitted to the "Briefadel" (lit. "letter of nobility"), the so-called new nobility as opposed to "Uradel", a term coined only in modern times, in reference to noble families whose ancestral lineage can be traced back to before the Middle Ages. Moreover, this House, in all ages, always stood out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal professions and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Hermann, landowner in Hesse, flourishing in 1490; Thiederich, ... To be continued
priest, flourishing in Volkmarsen, in 1520; Selandinus, doctor of laws, flourishing in Merseburg, in 1532; Karl, landowner in Saxony, flourishing in 1544; Alexander, doctor of laws, florishing in Volkmarsen, in 1569; Benedikt, captain of arms, flourishing in 1598; Gerard, military doctor, flourishing in Frankfurt, in 1610; Klaas, doctor of laws, flourishing in Volkmarsen, in 1630; Philip, landowner in Hasse, flourishing in 1651; Theodor, captain of arms, flourishing in 1669; Hildebert, jurist, flourishing in Volkmarsen, in 1703; Friedrich, landowner in Hasse, flourishing in 1734; Filiberth, militiaman, flourishing in Darmstadt, in 1745; Hildebert, landowner in Hesse, flourishing in 1767. Another branch of the family, known as Balko or Balkò settled in Hungary where it likewise flourished nobly. Family names so old, without any doubt, honour not only the families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy the living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious members. ...
