Il ceppo originario di tal illustre casato figurava tra le nobili famiglie di Valcarlos, nel distretto giudiziario di Aoiz, in Navarra. Un cospicuo ramo del casato giunse anteriormente al XV secolo in Italia e, più precisamente, si stabilì in territorio romano.
