Cette famille a donné, bien avant 1789, à la magistrature, des sujets distingués. La branche ainée de Fourtou est représentée de nos jours par deux frères don't l'un, Léonce, tient toujours une place honorable au Conseil général, et l'autre, Oscar, a été également conseiller général, et, après s'être fait remarquer au barreau, a été successivement membre de la Chambre des députés, ministre et sénateur. On sait que ces hautes dignités, sous l'ancienne Monarche française, donnaient aux titulaires - en tant qu'ils ne l'avaient déjà - la qualité de Noble. La branche de lisle s'est éteinte dans la personne du docteur Alfred Bardi de Lisle, chevalier de la Légion-d'Honneur, maire de Périgueux de 1855 à 1870 et de 1870 à 1875. Un procureur au parlement de Guienne, du nom de Bardy, fut convoqué au ban et arrière-ban de la noblesse du Périgord, en 1689 pour Ribérac, c'est probablement René, sieur de Fourtou, dont le haut-père, Faure, était procureur au Parlement.
