Famiglia milanese che si ritiene discendere da quella anticamente chiamata "da Intimiano" nome derivato da un castello omonimo da lei posseduto in quel di Como. La nuova denominazione sarebbe stata assunta allorché Girardo o Gariardo, nipote di Eriberto d'Intimiano, arcivescovo di Milano, si impadronì della corte e pieve di Arzago. Contò molti illustri personaggi fra cui: Girolamo vescovo di Nizza e grande elemosiniere di Caterina de' Medici, regina di Francia, nel 1544; Francesco, tenente generale e governatore di Milano nel 1624, poi governatore di Genova.
