Antiguo apellido de Cataluña y Valencia. Mosén Jaime Febrer le atribuye origen francés, y cita al caballero Jaime B., muy conocido en Francia, poderoso y rico, que vino desde París a la conquista de Valencia, ayudando en ella al rey don Jaime I de Aragón. El apellido, sin embargo, aparece en Cataluña con anterioridad a la conquista de Valencia, y radicó especialmente en la provincia de Gerona. En ésta, por añadidura, hay un lugar denominado B., y perteneciente al partido judicial de Olot, cuyo nombre debe estar relacionado con el del linaje. Aparte el caballero Jaime B., citado por Febrer, pasaron al reino de Valencia otros de este apellido, originarios de Cataluña. Unos se establecieron en la villa de Cocentaina (Alicante), y otros tomaron parte en la conquista de Játiva, donde fueron heredados. De estos últimos cita Viciana a Ferrer de B, inscrito en el libro del repartimiento de los heredamientos de Játiva, hecho el 7 de febrero de 1240. Añade Viciana que, según comprobó con escrituras antiguas y evidentes probanzas, los hijos y nietos del citado Ferrer de B. "se esparcieron por las villas de la cormarca donde recae la dicha villa de Cocentaina", y que de ellos dimanó también la rama establecida en la ciudad de Valencia. A ésta perteneció Micer Marco Juan de B., doctor famoso en Derechos y caballero muy señalado en las armas y en la administración de la justicia. ...
