Un hijo bastardo de M. de Lebret, natural de la Gascuña francesa, llamado Bernal de B., fué el primero que en España usó este apellido. Vino dicho Bernal a Castilla a servir a Don Enrique, cuando éste guerreaba contra su hermano el Rey Don Pedro I el Cruel, y el de Trastamara le armó caballero en Calahorra. Después, cuando vencedor Don Enrique, fué alzado Rey de Castilla, hizo a Bernal de B. Conde de Medinaceli, siendo éste uno de los primeros títulos nobiliarios que se crearon en Castilla, pasando a los hijos de los primeros titulares.
