Modalidades con que se conoce en Aragón un antiguo y noble linaje de caballeros. Cuentan las crónicas que el 24 de junio de 1089 caía la villa de Monzón en poder del ejército cristiano, mandado por Sancho Ramírez. El castillo de la villa fue tomado por asalto al toque de una campana instalada en el campamento, por cuyo motivo se puso luego al pueblo el nombre de "Mont-só", que en lemosín significa "monte y sonido". El citado monarca dio a los caballeros conquistadores y pobladores de la villa el título de infanzones, y a su hijo don Pedro, el de rey de Monzón, por el valor que desplegó en el asalto. Entre los caballeros que más se distinguieron en la lucha hubo uno que fue presentado por don Pedro a su padre, el monarca Sancho Ramírez, diciéndole: "Bene detis isti portionem". El rey le heredó en Monzón y le concedió las armas, tomando desde entonces el caballero por sobrenombre las primeras palabras que pronunció don Pedro: "Bene detis", y las trasmitió a sus descendientes, quienes se apellidaron Benedit, Benedet y Benedetes. Lo cierto es que este linaje continuó residiendo en Monzón, aumentando sus riquezas y preponderancias y desempeñando los cargos honoríficos, y después, siguiendo las incidencias de la Reconquista, se extendió por Aragón y Valencia. ...
