Con Regio Decreto 8 ottobre 1859 Francesco II, re del Regno delle Due Sicilie, concedeva al cavaliere Salvatore, marchese di Lema, inviato straordinario e ministro plenipotenziario a Napoli di S.M. la regina di Spagna, il titolo di duca di Ripalda, trasmissibile in ordine di maschile primogenitura.
