Pedro B., descendiente de la muy antigua y nobilísima casa de B. de Galicia, valiente capitan, émulo y sobrino del Cid.Este apellido tuvo su primitivo solar en el lugar de Montaos. La mayor parte de los autores consideran también dimanadas del solar gallego las numerosas casas de este apellido que andando los tiempos florecieron en diversas partes de la Península; pero no hay que olvidar que B. es apellido patronímico, derivado de Bermudo, y que muy bien pudieron adoptarle otros linajes en recuerdo de algún ilustre progenitor suyo, sin que ello supusiera relación de parentesco con el de Galicia. La casa de Montaos vino a para r en hembra, pues a principios del siglo XVI florecia Beatriz B. de Castro, décimotercera Señora de la casa de Montaos, que casó con Selio Grisón, caballero del Sexio de Nido, y procrearon a Lucrecia B. de Castro, décimocuarta Señora de Montaos, que contrajo matrimonio con Francisco de Menchaca, segundo poseedor del mayorazgo de su casa, Comendador de Torres y Cañamares en la Orden de Santiago. Fueron sus hijos Gaspar B. de Castro y Menchaca, que sigue, y Beatriz B. de Castro y Menchaca. El primogénito, Gaspar B. de Castro y Menchaca, fué décimoquinto Señor de Montaos, pero murió sin sucesión, heredándole su hermana Beatriz B. de Castro y Menchaca, décimo sexta Señora de Montaos, que fué esposa de Pedro Álvarez de Vega, segundo Conde de Grajal. Del matrimonio nacieron tres hijos: Juan de Vega y Menchaca B. de Castro, que sigue; Francisco de Vega y Menchaca B. de Castro, del que se hablará, y Antonio de Vega y Menchaca B. de Castro, que fué religioso. Otra casa muy antigua. De la investigación realizada en el Archivo General de la Compañía de Indias en Sevilla, extraemos la siguiente información: Francisco B., natural de Loja, soltero, hijo de Antón López Tamayo y de Sancha B. de León, fue nombrado Capitán de guardia por decreto de la Real Compañía de Indias en abril de 1577 y embarcó hacia Nueva España el ; en otro legajo del mismo archivo figura que dimitió del cargo a los catorce ...
