Agli albori del secolo decimo nono, l'ultima discendente dei Fabbrani andò infatti in sposa ad un Bernardi chiedendo al marito di poter unire i due cognomi per la discendenza. I Bernardi sono una nobile famiglia bolognese, divisasi nel tempo in molti rami, i quali ebbero diversa fortuna.
