Nobility crown BernstorffAncient and noble German family, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. Originally from Mecklenburg, it also had large possessions in Saxony and Holstein; its dominions also extended to Denmark, Austria and the city of Brunico. The members of the Bernstorff family held the title of Count, granted to them on December 14th, 1767 by King Christian VII of Denmark. Even earlier, on October 8th, 1715, the British royal and Electoral Minister of Braunschweig-Lüneburg Andreas Gottlieb von Bernstorff (1649–1726) had been elevated to the status of Imperial Baron. Furthermore, this lineage is very ancient. Its first attestation dates back to 1300, when a document mentions "Johannes dictus de Bernardestorpe"; however, it is customary to indicate Johann Bernstorp, squire of Bernstorp, flourishing in 1411, as the progenitor.
