Origin of last name Bold, country of origin: Germany - Italy

Nobility: Nobles
Heraldic trace of family: Bold
Nobility crown Bold Ancient German family, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. According to what has beeb handed down, this family, as a reward for valuable services rendered to Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor, was admitted to the "Briefadel" (lit. "letter of nobility"), the so-called new nobility as opposed to "Uradel", a term coined only in modern times, in reference to noble families whose ancestral lineage can be traced back to before the Middle Ages. Moreover, this family, in all ages, always stood out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal professions and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Otto, landowner in Innichen, flourishing in 1475; Hieronimus, doctor in both laws, flourishing in Wolgast, in 1520; Michael, cavalry commander, flourishing in 1543; Hans, jurist, flourishing in Wolgast, in 1574; Wolfgang,... To be continuedlandowner in Eastern Pomerania, flourishing in 1607; Franz, jurist, flourishing in Eastern Pomerania, in 1628; Herman, landowner in Eastern Pomerania, flourishing in 1656; Ludwig, militiaman by profession, flourishing in 1678; Hans, landowner in Northern Italy, flourishing in 1686; Barth, militiaman by profession, flourishing in 1692; Friedrich, general of cavalry, flourishing in 1704; George, councillor in Wolgast, flourishing in 1711. A branch of the family flourished in Venice, where it has been known also as Boldu. It had senators, prosecutors of St. Mark and state inquisitors. Leonardo, man of war, distinguished himself in 1473 against the Turks; Giacomo was a literate and an orator; Filippo defended Cisterna during the Candia War. This branch was confirmed in its nobility by sovereign resolution November 11, 1817. From the analysis of colours and symbols of the coat of arms we can have some information on the family virtues. 1) The argent, in fact, symbolizes purity, tenderness, temperance, mercy, kindness, the desire to win and the talent of eloquence; the tincture azure symbolizes water, the continuity of life, it is a colour of nobility, beauty, chastity and fidelity; the dove is symbol of peace and pureness. 2) In heraldry, sable is the tincture black and it denotes the qualities of knowledge, piety, serenity and works; the silver lion in the black shield means firm resolution. Family names so old, without any doubt, honour not only the families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious persons.
