Ihren Ursprung hat sie nach unseren Überlieferungen in der Stadt Florenz, wo sie als Bucelli oder Buccelli bekannt war. Vor 1244 wurde Naldo di Lapo Buccelli in seinem Adelsgrab unter dem Gewölbe der Kirche S. Maria Novella in Florenz beigesetzt. Im selben Jahr wurde Giovanni von Talento Bucelli zum Lord der Gonfalonier ernannt, und bis 1432 gab der Zweig dieses Charakters der Heimat bis zu vierzehn Gonfaloniers und verschiedene Kanzler. Andere Zweige hatten ihre Gräber in S. Croce, im Kloster von Lana und in S. Apollinare. Die Gonfalonieri Niccolò, Santi, Bastiano, Andrea und Bernardo wurden von 1367 bis 1461 alle in Santa Croce, im Kloster von Lana, begraben.
