Dans le Grand Armorial de France, elles sont décrites, sous le nom de Jeanne de Coste: D'argent à une croix de gueules cantonnée de quatre coquilles. Gautier, seigneur de la Calprenède, né vers l'an 1612, au château de Toulgou, devint gentilhomme de la Chambre du roi, dignité qu'il conserva jusqu'à l'époque de samort, arrivée en 1663. Il composa plusieurs romans et tragédies. Il est rapporté par un des ses biographes que le cardinal de Richelieu, après avoir entendu la lecture d'une de ses tragédies, lui dit: "La pièce n'est pas mauvaise, mais les vers sont lâches."
