Illustre ed assai notabile famiglia dell'Isola di Capri, come testimonia l'importante ed omonima villa al centro del paese, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo, con maggiori insediamenti in territorio pugliese e nordamericano. Vuolsi essa abbia avuto origine da un ramo collaterale del nobile casato napoletano Campanelli o Campanella, particolarmente distintosi per meriti militari, il quale, passato nel XVII secolo a risiedere in Puglia e più precisamente in Spinazzola, diramò in lungo e largo e talvolta subì mutamenti cognominali. Ed infatti i primi riferimenti al cognome Campaniello li rinveniamo proprio in territorio pugliese: in un documento del 1677 si nomina una Gioanna Campaniello di Bitonto, nel 1759 una Rosa Maria Campaniello è residente in Spinazzola. Dalla Puglia la famiglia Campaniello deve esser poi necessariamente passata a risiedere in Capri poiché è lì che tal schiatta ha lasciato maggior memoria storica ...
