Nach unseren Angaben stammt die Familie ursprünglich aus San Miniato, von wo aus sie in Pistoia vorbeikam. Darüber hinaus wird angenommen, dass die Mitglieder dieser Familie von derselben Agnation sind wie die Cavalcanti und die Cancellieri. Cantino von Amadore Cavalcanti von den Circles wurde 1300 zum Kapitän von Pistoia gewählt. Cancellieri da Cantino spielte eine große Rolle in den Fraktionen Bianchi und Neri; Domenico, der 1490 den Nachnamen der Ältesten verlassen hatte, nahm Cantinis für sich und seine Nachkommen und ging mit zweihundert Pistoia-Soldaten Giovanni Bentivoglio zu Hilfe, der die Herrschaft von Bologna beanspruchen wollte.
