Antica famiglia, originaria di Firenze, chiamata prima Porcelli, prese poi l'attuale nome dalla località omonima di cui era signora. Di parte ghibellina dovette emigrare dalla madre patria, e nel 1290 un Enrico Porci prese parte alla fazione di Spoleto col celebre Ugoccione della Faggiuola, e quindi nel 1315 Porcellino e Rodolfo, figli di Rigo Porco, dovettero emigrare anche dalla seconda patria. Ritornata in Gubbio, dopo cessate le ire di parte, vi esercitò i primi poteri, e dette alla città molti magistrati, prodi guerrieri, governatori di fortezze ed egregi letterari. Nel XV secolo i Carbonana ebbero l'eredità degli Albi signori di Sassoferrato, e nel XVIII secolo poterono aggiungere al proprio casato quello dei Raffelli signori di Colmullaro. Non si hanno più notizie di questa famiglia dal 1886, con la morte del conte Porcello, egregio poeta.
