Jean, évêque du Puy, Comte de Velay (1361). Ce prélat était issu d'une maison des plus considérables de la Guyenne, possessionée en Quercy, Auvergne, Gévaudan, dicvisée au XIVème siècle en cinq branches dites: I° de Bioule; 2° de la Chapelle-Marival; 3° de Thémines-Espédaillac; 4° de Varayre et Privezac; 5° de Bringues et Montbrun. Nombreuses illustrations: des chambelland et chevaliers de l'ordre du roi, des sénéchaux et gouverneurs du Quercy, des lieutenants-généraux en Languedoc, plusiurs évêques, etc. Celui du Puy était fils de Bertrand, seigneur de Bioule et D'Ermengarde de Lautrec. Il fut successivement docteur et professeur de droit civil à l'Université de Toulouse, évêque d'Orense en Espagne (1351), d'où il fut promu en 1361 à l'évêché du Puy, siège qu'il abandonna pour celui de Braga en Portugal, le 9 juillet de la même année: Grégoire XI qui l'avait en haute estime, le nomma l'an 1371, patriarche d'Alexandrie, l'envoya en 1372 en qualité de légat à Avignon et le créa en 1378 administrateur de l'archvêché de Toulouse. ...
