Antica ed illustre famiglia, oriunda di Arezzo. Carlo, di Attilio Casini, fu tra i Priori di Arezzo nel 1672. La sua famiglia, già ammessa al quarto grado della cittadinanza, era stata poi promossa al terzo e quindi, con deliberazione consigliare del 5 settembre 1701, al secondo, finché il fratello di detto Carlo, fra Francesco Maria dell'Ordine dei Cappuccini, famoso predicatore (1648-1719) fu il 27 maggio 1712 ammesso coi nipoti Attilio e Paolo al supremo onore del Gonfalonierato e, per decreto della civica rappresentanza, fu contemporaneamente posto il suo ritratto nella sala del Consiglio. Il 30 gennaio del seguente anno fu nominato Cardinale di Santa Chiesa.
Il cardinale Francesco Maria , morto nel 1719, adottò lo stemma, partito con quello della famiglia Albani, cui apparteneva il papa Clemente XI che lo aveva creato cardinale nel 1712.
