Nobility crown CatteschiFamiglia anteriore al 1300. Il primo dei Gatteschi segnato dal Franchi è Guardato, la cui moglie Marchesana si trova enunciata vedova il 21 aprile 1294, in uno strumento rogato ser Jacopo Mannucci; il secondo è Giuntino di Guardato, galigarius, risieduto anziano nel febbraio del 1330. E' da ritenersi che questa famiglia sia la stessa dei Gatteschi signori di Viterbo quantunque lo stemma sia differente. Battista di Marco di Jacopo fu assunto nel 1420 alla suprema carica di gonfaloniere di Pistoia. Tale onore godettero, dopo di lui, i suoi discendenti, alcuni dei quali esercitarono la professione delle armi, distinguendosi nelle guerre dei loro tempi. I Gatteschi vestirono per giustizia l'abito di cavaliere nell'Ordine di S. Stefano (1562) e in quello di Malta (1579); e furono ascritti al patriziato pistoiese con decreto della Deputazione sulla Nobiltà e Cittadinanza Toscana del 5 maggio 1755.
