L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata, tramite forme dialettali, nell'accrescitivo del nome Pietro (Pedro), appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. Tal casato, inoltre, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Francesco, notaio imperiale in Rovereto, vivente nel 1591; altro Francesco, vicario della giurisdizione di Castel Gresca, nel 1624; Guglielmo, commissario nella corte d'Arco dal 1673 al 1676, consigliere di S. M. Cessarea, poi soprintendente dei quattro Vicariati; un Francesco-Adamo, illustre giureconsulto e soprintendente c. s. La famiglia levò per arme.
