Cette famille figure dans des preuves faites pour entrer à l'École militaire sous l'ancienne monarchie. Un grand nombre de ses membres servaient comme capitaines chevaliers de Saint-Louis, au régiment de Médoc. L'un d'eux, lieutenant à ce régiment, est cité pour sa brillante conduite au siège du fort St-Philippe de Minorque, où fut blessé. Le colonel Paul Chadois, sénateur inamovible, a représenté le département de la Dordogne à l'Assemblée nationale de 1871, où il fut envoyé le premier de la liste par 83,000 suffrages qui récompènserent ainsi le glorieux chef des mobiles de notre département. M. de Chandois, sorti de St-Cyr en 1851, fut nommé sous-lieutenant au 73e régiment d'infanterie de ligne; il devint rapidement capitaine, puis adjudant-major. Démissionnaire en 1867, il vint se fixer au château de la Pleyssade, canton de Sigoulès, en Pèrigord, par son mariage avec Mlle Marie-Louise-Pauline-Léonie de Ségur; il reprit du service au moment de la guerre de 1870, fut nommé chef du 1er bataillon du régiment des Mobiles de la Dordogne, et, en sa qualité de plus ancien officier supérieur, il a commandé ce régiment pendant toute la campagne de 1870-71. Nommé colonel par décret de janvier 1871, il fut appelé au commandement de la 1er brigade de la 2e division au 16e corps. Chevalier de l'ordre du mérite militaire de Savoie à la suite de la campagne d'Italie de 1859, M. de Chadois est officier de la Légion-d'Honneur du 9 janvier 1871.
