Antiquíssima família de Espanha que deriva da dos Girões. D. Pelaio Pelis, quarto filho de D. Pelaio Fruela o Diácomo, e de sua mulher D. Aldonça Nunes, foi senhor de Paramo de la Foceya, nas Astúrias, e de muitos outros estados, tanto nesta província como na da Galiza. Recebeu-se com Muma Dona, chamada Maior Gonçalves, como se declara numa escritura de doação que fez, a 20-II-1097, a qual D. Maior Gonçalves era, conforme parecem aparentada próximamente com o Cid Rui Dias. Deste matrimónio nasceram vários filhos, de que provieram os Flores, os Girões, os C., e os Silvas. Um deles, D. Gonçalo Pelaid, senhor de C. e dos castelos de Buenga, Boçon, Pajares, Astorga, Alva de Quiros, nas Astúrias, e de outros muitos estados, viveu em Proaça, intitulou-se Conde e foi muito argulhoso, pelo que se rebelou três vezes, as primeira contra o Rei D. Afonso VII, pelo ano de 1131, fortificando-se nos seus castelos das Astúrias, que as forças régias lhe tomaram. Despojado dos seus bens, D. Gonçalo Pelais refugiou-se em Portugal e aqui morreu no ano de 1133. Parece ter sido casado com D. N... Peres de C., filha de D. Pedro Gonçalves, senhor de C., em Barcelona, pajem de lança do Rei D. Afonso VI. Teve do seu matrimónio D. Rodrigo Gonçalves de C., que serviu os Reis D. Afonso VI e D. Afonso VII e, na batalha de Toledo, vendo o Rei em perigo de ser cativado dos Mouros, por estar já apeado, lhe acudiu, dando o seu cavalo e pondo-o nele para fugir ao perigo.
