Vuolsi che essa sia d'origine francese e che precisamente sia giunta in Sicilia dalla Normandia. La leggenda narra che suo capostipite sia stato il cavaliere normanno Guarino d'Aceto, conosciuto appunto anche come Guarino Consolino. Fu egli "magister cappellanus" e Gran Cancelliere di Ruggero II di Sicilia, dal 1130 al 1137 circa. Leggenda o verità, certamente questa famiglia vanta origini normanne.
