Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Henry, comte de Goëllo, fils puiné d'Étienne, comte de Penthièvre, épousa, en 1151, Mathilde, fille de Jean, comte de Vendôme et prit le nom de cette maison; Henri, croisé en 1240 et 1249, fondateur en 1251 des Cordeliers de Dinan, décédé en 1281. La branche aînée a fini à Jeanne, dame, comtesse de Goëllo, mariée, en 1318, à Guy de Bretagne, comte de Penthièvre, frère puiné du duc Jean III. Elle était nièce de Jean, évêque de Saint-Brieuc, puis de Dol, décédé en 1339. La seigneurie, confisquée par le duc Jena V sur les Penthièvre, l'an 1420, fut de nouveau érigée en baronnie, par le duc Fraçois II, en faveur de François, son fils naturel, maréchal de Bretagne, comte de Vetus, en Champagne, marié en 1495, à Madeleine de Brosse, sœur du comte de Penthièvre, et leurs descendants sont éteints depuis 1746. La branche du Parc, qui a produit Henry, archevêque de Bourges en 1423, s'est fondue, en 1540, dans Clérembault. La branche de Courtalain, fondue en 1553 dans Montmoreney-Fosseux. La branche de Kergroix, a fini à Blanche, dame de Kergroix, mariée, au XV siècle, à Jean sieur de Bellouan, à condition que les enfants â naître de ce mariage prendraient les nom et armes de cette maison. Cette branche s'est fondue, en 1600, dans les Machecoul de Vieillevigne. La branche du Tromeur a produit Jean, seigneur de Saint-Laurent, célèbre lieutenant du duc de Mercœur, marié, en 1580, à Françoise de Coëtquen, et s'est éteinte en 1655. La branche du Bois, issu de la branche de Kergroix a fini en la personne d'Antoine-Erard, mort en 1755 et en celle de son frère, capitaine de vaisseaux en 1727. ...
