Nobility crown DalzellEl linaje D. (pronunciado Diel) tuvo su antigua y noble cuna en Escocia. El Ragman's Roll (nombre de la crónica de los que prestaron juramento de lealtad en Escocia al Rey Eduardo I) dice que el apellido D. es muy antiguo y que se derivó de la Baronía de Dalzell, y que perdieron los de este linaje antes de 1343 por confiscación del Rey David II, quien en el citado año se la dió a Sir Malcolm Starhered. Thomas de D. era uno de los grandes Barones de Escocia que prestaron juramento de lealtad al Rey Eduardo I de Inglaterra en 1296, cuando este Monarca conquistó Escocia. También fué uno de los grandes patriotas que se asoció al Rey Robert Bruce y combatió con él contra los ingleses. Sir Robert de D., caballero, obtuvo del Rey David II de Escocia la concesión de Sargentía (grado de Abogado del Rey de primer orden) de Lanark y de las tierras de Croykstoune (propiedad territorial), en la provincia de Peebles. El 15 de Mayo de 1365, el Rey David II le dió, para sí y sus herederos masculinos legítimos, el título (privilegio exclusivo) "dilecto et fideli nostro Roberto de D. míliti, pro homagio et servicio suo, omnes terras nostras de Selkyrk, cum pertinenciis, exceptis annuis redditibus nostris et firmis nostris de burgo nostro de Selkyrk". Fué uno de los Barones escoceses que tuvieron en rehenes a Haco, Rey de Noruega, país que había de gobernar Henry Sinclair, Earl de las Orcadas, con fidelidad de las islas Orcadas. ...
