Secondo alcuni autori, l'origine di tal cognominizzazione andrebbe ricercata in un toponimo spagnolo, luogo di origine della famiglia; secondo altri, invece, si tratterebbe di un matronimico, derivando, dunque, dal nome proprio "Rosa". In ogni modo, la famiglia ebbe la propria casa ancestrale in Castiglia ma diramazioni di essa trovasi anche in Biscaglia ed in Andalusia. Ricordiamo il matrimonio di Ana García De La Rosa, figlia di Antonio García e di María De La Rosa, che si celebrò in San Fernando, in Cádiz, nel 1680. Il matrimonio di Agustín De La Rosa e di Paula de Santeras fu celebrato nella chiesa di San Esteban, in Aguilar de Campos, Valladolid, il 4 febbraio 1797.
