Antica ed assai nobile famiglia ligure, con residenza in Recco, ove risulta presente già nel secolo decimo quarto, secondo quanto affermano i genealogisti Ganduccio, Gniscardi e Della Cella, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. I membri della casata si trovano, già nel XVI secolo, iscritti fra i "mercatores nigri", in persona di Donato e Lodisio mentre fra gli "artifices nigri" troviamo un Agostino. Nel 1528, i De Marchi furono poi ascritti alla nobiltà nell'Albergo De Marini, in persona di Stefano Agostino, Nicolò, Gregorio, Donato, Gio. Francesco, Pietro Simone, Gio. Stefano, Paolo Antonio, Lorenzo, Barnaba e Bernardo. Raffaello fu anziano negli anni 1545, 1549, 1551 mentre fu vicario in La Spezia nel 1550 ed anche capitano di galee.
