Antico casato spagnolo, di chiara ed avita virtù, un cui ramo, anteriormente al XV secolo, giunse nel Regno di Napoli, al seguito dei re aragonesi. Proprio un "Dieco" Degan Di Dieco, variazione arcaica del più comune personale "Diego", infatti, in seguito alla sua partecipazione, proprio sotto i vessilli aragonesi, connotata da coraggio e virtù, alla guerra d'Otranto, del 1481, contro gli Ottomani, ottenne il privilegio del cavalierato. Ma, d'altronde, tal famiglia, la quale risulta presente in territorio calabrese, sin dal lontano XVI secolo, sempre, riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Cav. Bartolomeo, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Cosenza, nel 1521; Niccolò, che fece parte della scorta che accompagnò Costanza, quale sposa di re Ladislao; Armonio e Antonio, notai, viventi in Cosenza, nel 1534; Mariano, valoroso uomo d'armi, il quale combatté per Carlo V contro i Veneziani; Giorgio, maestro di campo, ...
