Le nom de cette famille se trouve diversement écrit: Gigord, Gigort et Gigors. Le premier titre où on le rencontre est un acte confirmatif de donation au prieuré de Dpmène: Anthelme y figure comme témoin.Philippe-Auguste fit don à Anthelme d'une terre ou seigneurie à Domène, diocèse deGrenoble. En 1244, Pierre était prieur de Saillans, diocèse de Die. Suivant une tradition mentionnée dans les plus Anciens titres et mémoires domestiques, un cadet de cette famille du Dauphiné se serait attché à la personne de Randon de Joyeuse et se serait marié avec l'héritière du seigneur du Vignal. Son nom était Mathieu. Mathieu, auquel commence la filiation suivie de cette maison, fit son testament le 9 novembre 1426, devant Romère, notaire, Dans cet acte il prend la qualification de noble et choisit sa sépulture dans l'église de Saint-Martin-de-Chambonas, et nomme pour exécuteur tastamentaire noble Astorg de Barbesia, auquel il lègue son cheval et ses armes de guerre. Il désigne ses trois enfants: 1° Michel; 2° Jacques; 3° Hermessende. Cette maison fut importante en Vivarais, où elle posséda de monbreuses seigneuries, entre autre celles du Vignal et du Vignalet, de Belvèze, la Boise, la Rochette, Charaix, Souchères, Saint-André-Lachamp en partie, etc. Les Gigord s'allièrent aux bonnes maisons du Vivarais et donnèrent à l'armée plusieurs officiers distingués. Ils furent représentés à la noblesse de la sénéchaussée de Villenueve-du Berg, en 1689, par Etienne major de Cambrai, chevalier de Saint-Louis, pour son fief de Fuchères. ...
