Lo históricamente probado es que hubo casa solar de este apellido en el Valle de Orozco, Encartaciones de Vizcaya, y que dos hermanos, originarios de la citada casa, acompañaron al Rey Don Fernando III el Santo en el cerco de Jaén y en la toma de Sevilla. Fueron heredados en Jaén, donde dejaron sucesión. Cuentan esas crónicas que por los años de 930, al pasar a Castilla, en auxilio del Conde Fernán González, el Señor de Vizcaya, D. Lope Díaz de Haro, dejó al servicio de su esposa, doña Toda Pérez de Azagra, en calidad de "doncel", a un caballero llamado Antón Díaz, el cual supo captarse el aprecio de su señora. Satisfecho D.
