Nobility crown ErcillaEl primitivo solar de este esclarecido linaje estuvo en la llamada Torre de Ercilla, sita a orilla del mar y en las immediaciones de la villa de Bermeo (Vizcaya). Poseyeron los de esta casa enterramiento en la capilla mayor de la iglesia de Santa María, al lado del Evangedio y junto a la sepultura de don Nuño de Lara. Pasó el apellido a Guipúzcoa, pues en las villas de Anzuola, del partido judicial de Vergara, y de Olaverría, del de Tolosa, radicaron casas de E. Otras dos hubo, según Miguel de Salazar, en la anteiglesia del lugar de Lazcano, también en Guipúzcoa. De la primitiva y noble Casa-Torre de Ercilla, en Bermeo, fué Martín Ruiz de E., Señor de la Torre de Ercilla, cabeza del bando de este nombre (uno de los cuatro de Bermeo), Regidor, Alcalde y Escribano mayor de la Armada, que, al mando de Íñigo de Artieda, o de Artiada, partió desde el puerto de Bermeo a socorrer, en 1493, las costas de Andalucía. Este caballero fué además, en 1514. Procurador de las villas del Señorío de Vizcaya y de la de Bermeo, ante la Junta General celebrada en Durango en 1515. Contrajo matrimonio con doña María Fernández de Ermendurúa, natural de Bermeo, de la casa de Ermendurúa (otra de las cuatro troncales de la citada villa), y fueron padres de Juan de E., natural de Bermeo, que en el año de 1533 marchó a las Indias de Maestre de la nave Imperial, volvió a España en 1534 y falleció antes de 1536, dejó sucesión; y Ortún, o Fortún García de E., que sigue. ...
