Procede de la villa de Ezquerra (cuyo nombre tomó), del partido judicial de Belorado, en la provincia de Burgos. Pasó a Vizcaya, Aragón, Santander y Extremadura. Una rama de los E. de Aragón radicó en la villa de Mallen, del partido judicial de la Borja (Zaragoza). En la Montaña de Santander hubo casa de este linaje en el Valle de Soba. En Castilla emparentaron con los Rozas y por eso antiguamente solía decirse: "No hay E. sin Rozas ni Rozas din E.". En Extremadura se establecieron en Alburquerque y en Alcántara.
